Originally called Dhakai, the Jamdani sari is named after the city of Dhaka. It is one of the major historical textile weaving centers in the Bengal region.

The Jamdani is a fine muslin cloth and on this decorative motifs are woven on the loom. This would be common in the white and grey colors. Furthermore, a combination of golden and cotton threads would be used.

Recently, the production of Jamdani sari has increased and witnesses a revival in the whole of Bangladesh. Also, it has got a geographical indication (GI) status. As of 2013, Jamdani sari has been declared as the traditional art of weaving by the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Of Humanity.
